About Caroline Owens

Having trained as a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist at the Tavistock Institute in London, I have since worked as a Consultant Child Psychotherapist and Head of Department in Wakefield CAMHS.
During my appointment I approached the regional NHS Commissioning Lead with a view to secure funding for training of child psychotherapy for Northern trainees.
The result of this was that 5 years later we founded the Northern NHS training school Of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy (NSCAP) where I was appointed as a founding Director and senior tutor.
Following this I had 15 years as Head of Child and adolescent Psychotherapy at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds. My stepping down from this post was followed by my taking up my role as Executive Director/ Clinical Director at the Private and long-established Orchard Therapy Centre, where I also worked as an adult psychotherapist.
In August of 2020, I branched out from the previous Company, where I was Executive Director for 7 years, and formed ‘Orchard Therapies’ – just as the Covid pandemic was taking a firm hold on our lives.
Caroline recently published a book that is available on Amazon. Find out more here

It is easy to learn and uses and combines simple dynamic tension release,  breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, mindfulness, visualisation, and sound. Sophrology can be offered as a stand alone therapy and it can also be hugely beneficial when practised alongside psychotherapy or counselling, empowering the person to safely feel embodied, and have the tools and resources to improve their levels of wellbeing.
Sophrology can also be used to help prepare for future events such as pregnancy and labour, interviews, exams, public speaking, sports competitions, preparing for surgery or other medical procedures, helping people to feel prepared and confident about facing a future event and their life.
Carla has a Diploma in Sophrology, has been working as a Sophrologist for over ten years and is a full member of the International Sophrology Federation. She specialises in stress and anxiety management, depression, and sleep issues, and also in helping people with food related issues: eating disorders, disordered eating and those needing to be on a medicinal diet. She is the founder of ‘Women, Food & Freedom’ – a programme to help women find freedom in their relationship with food.
